How Tempello Bills Emails Automatically
Tempello uses AI to detect billable emails, match them to the appropriate client or matter, and log a 0.1-hour time entry—all without any manual input.
How It Works:
-
Email Sent or Received
When you send or receive an email, Tempello scans the metadata (sender, recipient, subject line, and more) to evaluate whether it’s billable. -
Client/Matter Match
Based on your matching rules, Tempello assigns the email to the correct case. -
Time Entry Logged
A 0.1-hour entry is created and attached to that matter. If you're using Clio, this time entry appears there automatically.
What Qualifies as Billable?
By default, Tempello treats all emails sent and received from clients, opposing counsel, and third parties as billable unless:
- The sender/recipient is internal (e.g., another team member)
- The message is flagged as non-billable
- A custom rule excludes it
You can customize these filters in Settings > Billing Logic.
Where to View Entries:
- Go to Billing Dashboard
- Filter by date, matter, or user
- View all logged email-based time entries in real-time
